Indian Cuisine: True Food, Boracay

Boracay is a paradise not only for beach bummers but for food lovers. It is one of those travel destinations in the Philippines where you get to enjoy the beach, the night life and get to feast on local and international dishes.

When I went there several weeks ago, I was surprised to see McDonald's and Yellow Cab. I was wondering if Jollibee has plans of putting up a store there too.

That's how vibrant tourism is in Boracay, it's enticing a lot of investors and restaurant owners to put there presence in this little island.

An Indian meal at True Food was one of my memorable dinner in Boracay. And my favorite too. It was my first time to try Indian cuisine and it won my heart. I love it.

THE PLACE

True food has that relaxing and intimate ambiance. The restaurant's lighting gives a warm glow to the place.  I believe the best time to visit this restaurant is during the evening because the lights makes it more adorable and romantic.

True Food is a two-storey resto. It has that tropical interiors. The dining tables are made of wood and the floor cushions are the seats. Basically, you have to do an Indian sit when dining here.

FOOD

We ordered one garlic and a cheese-flavored naan. Naan is a flatbread made from white flour, salt, yeast and yoghurt. It is eaten by tearing a piece and then dipping or scooping some curry.

To add more carbo to our dinner, we had biryani rice. Wikipedia says the name is derived from the Persian word beryā(n) (بریان) which means "fried" or "roasted". It uses spices  and condiments that includes saffron,
ghee, nutmeg, mace, pepper, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, coriander, mint leaves, ginger, onions, and garlic.

We partnered our naan and biryani rice with chicken masala. This is a spicy chicken dish with masala sauce. We eat our naan by dipping into the thick masala sauce.

BUDGET/PRICE

Dining out in a group makes eating a lot cheaper since you will be sharing everything including the bill. This meal for three cost each of us P400.  That is a reasonable price considering that we are already in Boracay where everything is relatively expensive.

If you are planning to go to Boracay, don't miss True Food in your dining itinerary.

  2. I always wanted to try eating at Boracay's True Food, but don't like the ambience at the first floor. It looks like the second floor has a better set-up. Hmmm… Let me try dining there one of these days. Thanks for this post, Caryl.

  4. This is also one of the reason why I love Boracay. Dami kasi mga restaurants, and even the resorts in Boracay, may mga siniserve na masasarap na pagkaen. Lahat ng klase ng pagkaen from different countries pwede na ma-try sa Boracay. yum yum! :)
