Missy Bon Bon: Cagayan de Oro's Homegrown Breadshop/Resto

Having spent 18 years in Pampanga, hailed as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines, my palate has naturally gravitated towards flavorful dishes. This inclination towards good food and the art of cooking has become second nature to me. Now residing in Cagayan de Oro, I am on a quest to explore the local culinary scene, searching for hidden gems that would make any Kagayanon proud.

While Cagayan de Oro is often celebrated as a travel destination, it is not widely recognized as a food haven. However, I firmly believe that every place has its culinary treasures waiting to be discovered. In my pursuit of gastronomic delights, I stumbled upon a local gem that truly stands out: Missy Bon Bon.

About Missy Bonbon

The first time I noticed the Missy Bon Bon kiosk at Ayala Centrio Mall, I was intrigued. Despite my eagerness to try something from the store, the extensive menu always left me indecisive. It wasn't until I saw a tempting pancake photo on Instagram, shared by fashion blogger David Guison, that I felt compelled to delve deeper.

Missy Bon Bon is a sister company of Bigby's and Boy Zugba, all operated by Bigby's Quality Foods Corporation. According to an article in the Philippine Star, the Bigby's brand was founded by three friends – Henrik, Ann Yu, and Cathy Genabe – from Cagayan de Oro, driven by their shared passion for "eating good food." Their initial investment of P600,000 paved the way for the first outlet in Cagayan de Oro. By 1998, they expanded to Cebu, opening outlets at Ayala Center and SM City Cebu.

Dining Experience and Budget

Missy Bon Bon competes admirably with renowned restaurant brands in Pampanga and Metro Manila. The food is exceptional, and the ambiance is comfortable. The well-thought-out lighting creates a pleasant environment, perfect for both the eyes and selfies. For those who prefer an open-air experience, al fresco dining is available. While I have no complaints about the overall experience, the only downside was the disappointing Wi-Fi connection – a minor hiccup in an otherwise delightful culinary journey.

A rack of delicious-looking bread greets you when you opened the glass door. It was tempting to buy their pastel. I was wondering if it taste as good or better with VJANDEP.

I would definitely love to go back to Missy Bon Bon and try the rest of their bread and menu.

I've tried their San Rival shake (P135). It seems to me that it has skim milk, which I think is what they also use with their gelato. I tasted their mango shake, which is equally good.

Nothing surprising with the fullhouse sandwich (P150) but it was good and satisfying.

The cheesy sponge (P28/pc) is awesome. This seems perfect for a cup of hot choco. I bought some for my mom, and she loved it. It reminds me of Korean pastries.
